Why invest in a fund?

Funds take a lot of the legwork out of investing. Rather than researching and choosing individual investments yourself, a fund includes a basket of different ones. It's a popular way to invest as you can match the fund to your long-term goals or choose things like the industry type or global region. It can also be a good way to spread your investments to help balance any big losses in one area – this is called diversification.

As with all investments, the value of funds can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you’ve put in.

Our investment fund options

There are four options for investing in funds with us.

Universal Retirement Fund

This gives you a simple way to save for retirement in an Aviva Pension. It’s based on your age and the investments in the fund are managed for you, so their risk level reduces closer to a retirement date you set.

More ways to invest

With Aviva, you’re not limited to investing in funds. If you’d prefer to use individual UK shares, you can buy and sell online with us too.  You can also choose from a range of exchange traded funds (ETFs) and investment trusts.

Our investment fund charges

There's an Aviva Charge of up to 0.4% of the value of your funds in your Aviva Stocks & Shares ISA, Pension or your Investment Account, calculated daily and taken monthly.

There's also a Fund Manager Charge to cover running costs. You’ll find information about this in the Key Investor Information Document which you can see when choosing your funds - it's often shown as the ongoing charges figure.

Although more common with investment trusts, some funds will charge a performance fee – based on how well it does. This can also be found in the Key Investor Information Document.

Read more about charges and how they're paid from your account here.
